JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An estimated 15,000 runners are running 9.3 miles through the downtown and San Marco as the starting gun of the 31st running of the Gate River Run sounds at 8:30 a.m. This year, the finish line of the 15K will be on the field inside Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, rather than in the shadow of the stadium.

Last year, 14,000 -- the vast majority local, recreational runners -- ran the 15K course -- a River Run Record and the largest 15K in the country.

Race Director Doug Alred attributed much of the continued growth of the field to women. Last year, 47 percent of the 15K finishers were women.
